We're Back On the Internet, Baby!

Writing things on the internet, like some kind of freak.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a place on the internet to write things. I’ve done it in the past in a few formats. Personal websites, a game review blog, and an author website back when I was writing under a pseudonym. Wrote some drabbles, wrote some reviews, but none of it seemed to stick, so the sites would inevitably peter out.

I want to make a site that’s creative-project-agnostic. So it’s just … me. In any iteration, any project - it can be an ongoing thing. Like if I was to make a ‘my-name.com’ sorta site. Less pressure, more like a public diary.

Why on earth would you start a blog in 2025? Or really, 2026. Cause tomorrow’s 2026.

I’ve gone by Platformalist on Twitter, Bluesky, and Mastodon for a long time, so the name has stuck for me.

I’m also starting a challenge in 2025 where I’m aiming to finish one project a month. Some new projects, some old ones that have been nagging at me for a long time. But having a place to write about it and communicate my thoughts (in a longer format than you’d get on Bluesky, Mastodon, or shudder X) to keep me accountable.

Basically it’s nice to yak about things online and the myriad services available just don’t hit the mark for me like a good old fashioned blog. So here we are!

Why this site?

I wanted a single-page site that was ridiculously easy to maintain, with the benefits of a blog format without involving Wordpress. So we’ve got paginated blog posts on a single static homepage, with basic accessibility considerations. I work as a web developer and nearly defaulted to using React and Tailwind but I don’t even want that level of complexity involved here. We’re still deploying this on Vercel, though I’m sure there are simpler ways to deploy a site as well. Might downgrade that element down the line too.

No complexity for the moment. If I want to scale up down the line I’ll do so, but for now I want 100% simplicity and 0% headaches.
